As the acronym states, LUFASI serves as a wildlife haven for maltreated and strayed animals found around Lagos state. The LUFASI animal rescue and shelter unit houses 4 ungulates (horses, donkeys, sheep and goats), 4 avian species (Guinea fowl, African Grey Parrot, Pigeons and Ducks), 2 primates (Red capped Mangabey and the Mona monkey) and a mammal (African Civet).
We have dedicated animal groomers that monitor the wellbeing of each rehabilitated animal. This entails buying quality feed and providing suitable and bedding (provision of sawdust regularly). We have visits from veterinarians who provide and administer preventive medications to counter future ailments.
The Animal Sanctuary is hoping to acquire funds to create new shelters for all the animals and continue our public awareness drive on the importance of conserving Nigeria’s fauna.
To recycle the daily animal wastes such as animal dung, LUFASI Park is presently designing elevated compost pits. This is a sustainable method of disposing organic wastes in the park. The compost created in turn can be used as manure for the both the LUFASI tree nursery and the farm.
